The Co.Ge.Vi. Cooperative Générale des Vignerons, established in 1921 is one of the oldest associations unifying champagne winegrowers in the region of Champagne.
While producing champagne for other brands like Champagne Jacquard and Champagne Montaudon the CoGeVi has launched an ambitious program to give a new image and home to the privately owned brand Champagne COLLET, involving a new marketing strategy and the refurbishing of the historic headquarters and production plant located in Aÿ, a small town in the hearth of Champagne.
A series of buildings dating from the late nineteenth to the late twentieth century is quite incoherently organized around a central courtyard, at the edge between the old town plan and the open vineyards. The old production plant, an office building, a town house (where was originally created the CoGeVi), an old storage building and the slightly apart Villa Collet await a coherent and unitarian design approach.
In the first stage of the design process we have developed a master plan for the refurbishing of all areas and buildings setting a coherent design strategy for the project as a whole. We have then been in charge for the refurbishing of the office building, the Maison CoGeVi and the Vinotheque and we have acted as design consultant insuring design coherence for the remaining areas (the courtyard, the Villa Collet and the Besserat Building).
For the new office spaces, the design, resolutely contemporary , focuses on lightness and transparency to create the ideal environment for a dynamic company whose market is now worldwide while the Maison CoGeVi is respectfully refurbished to become a small museum of the winegrowers association as well as housing a small champagne shop.
For the Vinotheque, the cellars where silently and patiently sit the “millesimes”, a soft and delicate lighting design enhances the natural and magic beauty of these cellars excavated in the ground more than a hundred years ago. Design features and custom made fittings are made of traditional materials: wood, stone and barrel finish steel.
The design is a research process for the threads to be sewed together homogenously and give evidence and value to the century long history of this company while allowing the Champagne Collet brand to step into the 21st century and offer to an ever growing number of visitors a wide range of services in a state of the art and coherent design environment.
